Questions Virginia homeowners ask

My AC runs all day but the house still feels clammy. What is going on?

That is usually a humidity problem rather than a cooling problem, and it is the most common summer call we get in Virginia. An oversized system cools the air fast and shuts off before it pulls enough moisture out, so the thermostat is satisfied while the house feels damp. Leaky return ducts in a vented crawlspace make it worse by drawing humid outside air into the system. Before you call, check that your filter is not loaded and that supply vents are open. We will measure what the system is actually doing at the equipment and in the ducts, then tell you whether it is airflow, refrigerant charge, duct sealing or sizing.

Do you cover my part of Virginia?

We work with homeowners across Virginia and in the surrounding states, including Maryland, Delaware, Washington DC, West Virginia, Pennsylvania, New Jersey and North Carolina. The city links on this page show where we schedule most often. If you do not see your town, call anyway. We will tell you plainly whether we can get a truck to you and when, rather than leaving you waiting on a callback that never comes.

How soon can someone come out when the AC quits in July?

Call us and we will give you a real window for that day or the next, based on where you are and what the system is doing. Tell us up front whether the outdoor unit is running, whether air is moving at the vents, and whether the breaker has tripped. That helps us decide who to send and what parts to load. In the middle of a heat wave the calendar fills early in the day, so calling in the morning usually gets you seen sooner.

What should I check myself before booking a service call?

There are five safe things to look at. Check the thermostat batteries and confirm it is set to cool or heat and not fan only. Look at your breaker panel for a tripped breaker. Change the filter if it is grey and matted. Clear leaves, mulch and grass clippings back from the outdoor unit so it can breathe. Walk the house and make sure supply vents and returns are not blocked by rugs or furniture. Beyond that, leave it alone. Anything involving gas, refrigerant or high voltage needs a technician with gauges and a meter.

I smell gas near the furnace. What do I do?

Get everyone out of the house first. Do not flip switches, do not use the phone indoors, and do not try to find the source. Once you are outside and away from the building, call 911 or your gas utility's emergency line and let them make the house safe. Call us after that and we will come look at the heating system, check the heat exchanger and venting, and tell you what needs to happen before it runs again. The same rule applies if a carbon monoxide alarm sounds.

How it works

  1. Step 1

    Tell us the symptom

Call or fill in the form and describe what changed. Warm air, short cycling, a smell, water near the indoor unit. Details like that help us load the right parts before we leave.

  2. Step 2

    We diagnose the whole system

We check the thermostat, the indoor unit, the outdoor unit and the ductwork, including runs in crawlspaces where damp air and loose joints quietly cause weak airflow and long run times.

  3. Step 3

    You approve the fix

We explain what failed, what it takes to repair it, and what we would watch next season. Nothing gets replaced without your yes, and we clean up before we leave.

Why homeowners call us

  • Humidity is our home groundMuggy summers and damp shoulder seasons drive most of the calls we take. We look at moisture and airflow together, not the cooling number alone, because a clammy house often means a sizing or duct problem.
  • Crawlspace ducts get checkedOlder homes across the region run supply ducts through vented crawlspaces. Crushed flex, disconnected boots and soaked insulation show up constantly, and we get under the house to look instead of guessing from the register.
  • Heating and cooling bothSame crew for air conditioning repair in July and heating repair in January. We know how your furnace, heat pump and air handler share ducts and a blower, so one visit covers the whole system.
  • Plain talk on repair or replaceWhen a repair makes sense, we repair it. When a system is failing in ways that will keep costing you, we say so and explain why, then leave the decision with you and your timeline.
  • All major brands, gas & electricCarrier, Trane, Lennox, Goodman, Rheem, York and more, as an independent company.
  • Straight answersIf a system is not worth repairing, we say so, often right on the phone.
