Homeowners' pick for heating and cooling across Virginia and the Mid-Atlantic

Indoor Air Quality — Book a Visit Today

We install and service indoor air quality equipment that works with your existing heating and cooling system, including whole-home air purifiers, humidifiers, dehumidifiers, UV lights and fresh air ventilation, for homeowners across Virginia, Maryland, Delaware, Washington DC, North Carolina, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and West Virginia. Most IAQ calls start the same way: a house that stays sticky in summer, dry and staticky in winter, or a musty smell that shows up whenever the blower runs. On a visit we read humidity in the living space, look at filtration and return sizing, check duct condition in the crawlspace or attic, and test any purifier, humidifier or UV lamp already installed. Then we tell you what is worth adding and what is not. Call us and we will book a look.

The indoor air quality symptoms we hear most

  • The house feels clammy even with the AC running Oversized cooling or short run times leaving humidity behind, often paired with leaky crawlspace ducts
  • Musty smell every time the system kicks on Moisture in the ductwork, a wet drain pan or dirty evaporator coil
  • Dust settles back on the furniture a day after cleaning Undersized or bypassed filtration and return air leaking from unconditioned space
  • Static shocks and cracked woodwork all winter Very low indoor humidity that a whole-home humidifier is meant to correct
  • Allergies flare indoors more than outdoors Filter media too thin, air bypassing the filter rack, or no ventilation and air purification in the system

Whether you call it indoor air quality work or air purifier installation, the work is identical and so is the quote you approve first.

Safe things to check first

Worth a look before you call — sometimes it saves you the visit.

  • 1Change the air filter and note the size and how dirty it came out.
  • 2Walk the house and confirm supply and return vents are open and not blocked by furniture or rugs.
  • 3Check the thermostat settings and batteries, including any fan or humidity setting that may have been changed.
  • 4Look at the outdoor unit and clear leaves, grass clippings and mulch back from the sides so air moves freely.

Indoor Air Quality — quick answers

What indoor humidity should I aim for?

Most homes feel right between roughly 40 and 55 percent relative humidity in summer and a little lower in winter to avoid window condensation. We measure in the living space, not at the equipment, because crawlspace and duct conditions can skew what you feel.

Will a whole-home dehumidifier replace my AC?

No. Your air conditioner still handles temperature. A whole-home dehumidifier removes moisture independently, which matters on mild damp days when the AC barely runs and the house still feels sticky. The two work together and we size the dehumidifier to the home.

Do UV lights actually help?

UV lamps installed at the coil help keep biological growth off the coil and drain pan, which is where musty smells usually start. They are not a substitute for filtration or humidity control. We tell you where a lamp helps and where it will not.

Is a better filter enough on its own?

Sometimes, but a thicker filter in a rack sized for a thin one restricts airflow and can hurt the system. We check static pressure and return sizing before recommending media, and often the bigger win is sealing return leaks pulling air from a crawlspace.

Why is my house dry in winter even with a humidifier?

Common causes are a clogged humidifier pad, a closed water valve, a failed humidistat, or a unit sized too small for the house. We test the humidifier during a heating visit and replace worn pads and controls as needed.

Can duct sealing improve air quality?

Yes. Ducts running through vented crawlspaces and hot attics pull in damp, dusty air through leaks and joints. Sealing and insulating those runs usually does more for comfort and humidity than any single piece of IAQ equipment.

How it works

  1. Step 1

    Tell us the symptom

Call or fill in the form and describe what changed. Warm air, short cycling, a smell, water near the indoor unit. Details like that help us load the right parts before we leave.

  2. Step 2

    We diagnose the whole system

We check the thermostat, the indoor unit, the outdoor unit and the ductwork, including runs in crawlspaces where damp air and loose joints quietly cause weak airflow and long run times.

  3. Step 3

    You approve the fix

We explain what failed, what it takes to repair it, and what we would watch next season. Nothing gets replaced without your yes, and we clean up before we leave.

Why homeowners call us

  • Humidity is our home groundMuggy summers and damp shoulder seasons drive most of the calls we take. We look at moisture and airflow together, not the cooling number alone, because a clammy house often means a sizing or duct problem.
  • Crawlspace ducts get checkedOlder homes across the region run supply ducts through vented crawlspaces. Crushed flex, disconnected boots and soaked insulation show up constantly, and we get under the house to look instead of guessing from the register.
  • Heating and cooling bothSame crew for air conditioning repair in July and heating repair in January. We know how your furnace, heat pump and air handler share ducts and a blower, so one visit covers the whole system.
  • Plain talk on repair or replaceWhen a repair makes sense, we repair it. When a system is failing in ways that will keep costing you, we say so and explain why, then leave the decision with you and your timeline.
  • All major brands, gas & electricCarrier, Trane, Lennox, Goodman, Rheem, York and more, as an independent company.
  • Straight answersIf a system is not worth repairing, we say so, often right on the phone.
