Homeowners' pick for heating and cooling across Virginia and the Mid-Atlantic

Vent & Register Cleaning

We clean supply and return vents, registers, grilles and the first stretch of duct behind them in homes across Virginia, Maryland, Delaware, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, North Carolina, West Virginia and Washington DC. Homeowners call us when registers look grey and furred, when dust reappears on floors a day after cleaning, or when a room smells musty every time the AC starts. If that sounds like your house, get in touch and we will look at the vents and the ducts feeding them before recommending anything.

What the job involves

We pull the register covers off, wash them down and vacuum the boot and the accessible duct behind each opening with a HEPA vacuum and brushes sized for the run. Floor registers in older homes collect the worst of it, since anything dropped on the floor ends up in the boot. Return grilles get the same treatment, because that is where household dust is pulled in. Covers go back on straight and secure, and we clean up as we move room to room.

What we check while we are there

Vents tell us about the rest of the system. Grey fuzz on the grille edges usually means air is bypassing the filter, so we check filter size, fit and the filter slot itself. Damp boots or a musty smell in a crawlspace duct system points to insulation problems or a leak, which is common through humid summers and damp shoulder seasons across the region. We also confirm registers are open and dampers are where they should be, and we note any crushed or disconnected duct we find.

How we decide it is the right call

Vent and register cleaning is the right job when the mess is at the openings and the ductwork itself is sound. If we find heavy buildup deep in the trunk lines, moisture damage, rodent evidence or duct that has fallen apart in the crawlspace, we say so and talk through full duct cleaning or repair instead. We would rather tell you the vents alone will not fix your dust problem than clean them and leave the cause running.

Vent & Register Cleaning — quick answers

Will cleaning my vents cut down on house dust?

Sometimes. If the buildup is at the registers and returns, cleaning helps. If dust keeps coming back, the cause is usually a poorly sealed filter or leaking duct, and we check both while we are there.

How often should registers be cleaned?

Most homes do fine every few years, sooner with pets, renovation work or floor registers that catch debris. We can tell you what your grilles look like at your next service visit and let you decide.

Do you clean return grilles too?

Yes. Returns matter more than supplies for dust, since that is where air is pulled in. We clean the grille, the accessible boot behind it and check that the filter actually seals in its slot.

How it works

  1. Step 1

    Tell us the symptom

Call or fill in the form and describe what changed. Warm air, short cycling, a smell, water near the indoor unit. Details like that help us load the right parts before we leave.

  2. Step 2

    We diagnose the whole system

We check the thermostat, the indoor unit, the outdoor unit and the ductwork, including runs in crawlspaces where damp air and loose joints quietly cause weak airflow and long run times.

  3. Step 3

    You approve the fix

We explain what failed, what it takes to repair it, and what we would watch next season. Nothing gets replaced without your yes, and we clean up before we leave.

Why homeowners call us

  • Humidity is our home groundMuggy summers and damp shoulder seasons drive most of the calls we take. We look at moisture and airflow together, not the cooling number alone, because a clammy house often means a sizing or duct problem.
  • Crawlspace ducts get checkedOlder homes across the region run supply ducts through vented crawlspaces. Crushed flex, disconnected boots and soaked insulation show up constantly, and we get under the house to look instead of guessing from the register.
  • Heating and cooling bothSame crew for air conditioning repair in July and heating repair in January. We know how your furnace, heat pump and air handler share ducts and a blower, so one visit covers the whole system.
  • Plain talk on repair or replaceWhen a repair makes sense, we repair it. When a system is failing in ways that will keep costing you, we say so and explain why, then leave the decision with you and your timeline.
  • All major brands, gas & electricCarrier, Trane, Lennox, Goodman, Rheem, York and more, as an independent company.
  • Straight answersIf a system is not worth repairing, we say so, often right on the phone.
